*Coordination
panel shortens Ongole trip
Congress fails to select nominee
DC CORRESPONDENT
ONGOLE, APRIL 16
Hopes of selecting a
candidate for the Ongole assembly seat for the byelection through a
coordination committee were shattered as the committee visited Ongole for only
one day as against the scheduled five days to collector opinions of party
cadre. The Congress appointed coordination committee with district incharge
minister, Mr Dokka Manikyavaraprasad Rao, minister for secondary education, Mr
K. Parthasarathy, the minister for municipal administration and urban
development, Mr Manugunta Mahidhar Reddy, Ongole MP, Mr Magunta Srinivasulu
Reddy, Vijayawada
central MLA, Mr Malladi Vishnu, MLAs of Chirala, Kanigiri and Santanutalapadu,
Messrs Amanchi Krishnamohan, Mukku Ugranarsimha Reddy and B. N. Vijaykumar.
Ministers Mr
Manikyavaraprasad Rao and Mr Parthasarathy, MP, Mr Srinivasulu Reddy along with
MLAs Mr Vijaykumar and Mr Ugranarsimha Reddy conducted a meeting at district
party office on April 10 and toured various colonies of the Ongole and further
visited Kothapatnam on April 11. Mr Vishnu and Mr Krishnamohan were absent for
the two day tours. The ministers faced ire of public in their one day visit in
various colonies of Ongole and the Congress cadre also is angry with
coordination committee’s cancellation of five-day programme. Some leaders said
that normally the Congress high command selects its candidate and informs this
in a sealed cover hence this will be done here. Congress leaders and activists
feel that the late selection of candidate by the party will affect the Congress
in the byelection.
