July 4: In the backdrop of the resignations of peoples’s representatives of the Telangana region, the Ongole MP, Mr Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, urged the Union government to make Hyderabad a joint capital if a decision was taken in favour of a separate state for Telangana. As an alternative, he requested government to establish the capital in Ongole in case a joint capital was not feasible.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a joint meeting of the Praja Rajyam and Congress workers at Darsi in Prakasam district on Monday, he said that Ongole was centrally located, well-connected and a good location to set up the new capital. He maintained that the Central government will consider the sentiments of the people of all regions before arriving at a conclusion on the state bifurcation issue. Addressing Praja Rajyam and Congress workers earlier, Mr Reddy said that the first meeting on the PR-Congress merger initiative had taken place in the Darsi segment. He recalled his family’s association with Chiranjeevi’s family and expressed pleasure in continuing the relationship in politics.
Pointing to the PR leader, Mr Maddisetty Venugopal, who unsuccessfully contested from the Darsi segment in the 2009 Assembly elections, he said that he will coordinate with Mr Venugopal to develop Darsi constituency in all respects. He appealed to Congress leaders and cadre to understand the prevailing situation and maintain harmony with their counterparts in the PR. He indicated to plans to hold a public meeting at Darsi and invite the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chiranjeevi, PCC chief Mr Botsa Satyanarayana and the minister for municipal administrati-on, Mr M. Mahidhar Reddy, for the event. The former legislator, Mr D. Rajagopal Reddy and Mr Venugopal also participated in the meeting.
