Leaders queue up to join YSRC
Leaders of the Telugu Desam and Congress are migrating into the YSR Congress in Prakasam district, suspecting a huge win for the YSRC in the forthcoming Assembly elections. Recently, Telugu Yuvatha and state Telugu Rythu vice-president Chunduri Ravi joined the YSRC with his supporters. Earlier, senior TD leader and former MLA Gottipati Narsaiah gave a jolt by joining the YSRC.
Similarly, another TD senior leader and ex-MLA P. David Raju, ex-MLA Mukku Kasi Reddy, former minister and Chirala TD leader Dr P. Rama Rao and Dr Swarna Geetha also joined the YSRC. The Congress feels the same pinch with former MLAs Dr B. Ch. Gartaiah, Dara Sambaiah, Janke Vankat Reddy, Udumula Srinivas Reddy and former zilla parishad chairperson Katam Arunamma joining the YSRC. Meka Ravindrababu, a Kamma leader who worked as Prakasam district revenue officer, joined the YSRC two days ago in the presence of Ongole MLA Balineni Srinivas Reddy.
He had earlier faced allegations of supporting the TD as DRO.
Meanwhile, YSRC party sources said that Mr David Raju was working for a party ticket to contest from Yerragondapalem reserved constituency.
Similarly, Dr Gartaiah was busy for the Addanki ticket, Mr Narsaiah for the Parchur ticket and Mr Rama Rao for the Chirala party ticket. YSRC state spokesperson and MLC Mr Jupudi Prabhakar Rao is planning to contest from Santanutalapadu reserved constituency.
Interestingly, Mr Ravindrababu is seeking the Kandukur ticket due to the presence of Kamma voters there.

The YSR Congress claimed growing response to their party in Telangana region and is hopeful of winning majority seats to form government in the state in 2014 assembly elections.
YSRC leader and former MLA Konda Surekha said at Markapuram on Monday that YSRC is getting growing response in the Telangana region as public were attracted toward party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. She predicted that in 2014 assembly election, YSRC would emerge as single largest party to form government with public support.
Mentioning about the statement of Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao about forming of Telangana in one month, she announced YSRC would launch agitations against Mr Chandrasekhar Rao for cheating public from September 15 if Telangana state fails to form.
Ms Surekha defended that YSRC had voted in favour of Mr Pranab Mukherjee in the recent presidential polls due to his clean image and ruled out any hidden pact with Congress. She alleged that TRS was deceiving public with false statements and predicted that people will teach a strong lesson to TRS in future.
She further alleged that Congress government had sent him to jail with the help of false cases, as it is unable to digest growing response to Mr Jagan. She claimed enormous response to YSRC honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi’s Deeksha at Siricilla in support of weavers.
Ms Surekha further predicted huge win to YSRC in forthcoming local body elections with public support. Later Ms Surekha unveiled YSR statues in many villages of Donakonda mandal along with former MLAs, Mr U. Srinivasulu Reddy, Mr Janke Venkata Reddy and other leaders.

Counting of votes for the Ongole Assembly and the Kandukur segment of the Nellore Parliament constituency byelection polls will be held at the Ongole Municipal Corporation office on June 15.
The Ongole Assembly constituency byelection counting will be delayed as two EVMs have to be counted due to the high number of contestants, 23 in all.
Returning officer M.S. Murali said that 14 tables were placed to count votes in 239 polling booths in 18 rounds. Similarly, another 14 tables were placed to count votes of 201 polling booths in the Kandukur segment of the Nellore Parliament byelection.
Prakasam superintendent of police K. Raghuram Reddy said restrictions under Section 144 were imposed on the municipal corporation office limits and its adjacent areas. He added that traffic will be not allowed on Church Centre Road, municipal office road and Devudu Cheruvu roads due to counting, and people will be allowed only through the Ambedkar statue and Yenuguchettu roads.
Prakasam Collector Anita Rajendra said that counting will start at 8 am with the counting of postal ballots. She assured continuous power for counting and generators for emergencies.
She added that no one will be allowed with cellphones and vehicles cannot enter the counting centre. The Congress, Telugu Desam and YSR Congress have appointed their agents for counting. People are betting money and other valuables over the results.

Two polling personnel was removed in Ongole during the byelection on Tuesday after allegations of helping the YSR Congress. Besides this, Telugu Desam and YSR Congress activists clashed at 102 polling station at the market centre and police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the clashing groups.
Election Commission officials identified presiding officer S. Seshagiri and micro-observer K. Seshagiri Rao directing an aged voter towards the fan symbol and directed district collector Anita Rajendra to remove both from duty.
Ms Rajendra immediately rushed to the PVR Boys’ municipal high school and appointed two others, replacing the two.
Returning officer M.S. Murali lodged a complaint with police and the two were later arrested. TD leaders complained about the highlight on the fan symbol with a marker on the EVM at C.S.R. Sarma College polling station and poll officials resolved the issue. Congress and YSRC activists clashed at Kothapatnam but police settled the matter and restored polling.
Kanigiri MLA of the Congress Mukku Ugranarasimha Reddy came to Mamidipalem polling booth, but YSRC activists objected, stating that the MLA was a non-local. Police sent the MLA away to continue polling.
YSRC leaders complained about forcible removal of their agents at 102 polling station by TD leaders. Former MLA Karanam Balarama Krishnamurthy along with his son Venkatesh and other supporters, YSRC aspirant Balineni Srinivas Reddy, Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and Chirala MLA Amanchi Krishnamohan rushed to the spot.
TD supporters tried to attack Balineni and others but police led by district superintendent of police K. Raghuram Reddy resorted to a mild lathi-charge and dispersed the unruly mob. YSRC aspirant Srinivas Reddy alle-ged that the TD had tried rigging by removing their agents and attacked them.
He added that police did not initiate action to curb non-local MLAs hence they were going to lodge a complaint with the EC about violations during the poll.

Prakasam district superintendent of police K. Raghuram Reddy said here on Monday that the police department would be using GPS devices and Google maps to monitor the movement of the police mobile parties and for a quick response for any complaint.
Mr Raghuram Reddy said that a team of techies from Hyderabad, comprising Karunkar Reddy, Riyaz and Sandeep were working voluntarily with the police department and providing valuable inputs and help with the GPS system.
Asking the people to cooperate with the police department for a free and fair byelection, he said that the police had initiated strong measures to curb anomalies during voting on Tuesday.
Mr Raghuram Reddy said that two additional SPs, nine DSPs, 21 CIs, 190 SIs, 318 ASIs/HCs, 1520 police constables and 548 home guards were depl-oyed for bypoll bandobust.
The DSP added that besides this, 504 armed force personnel were performing election duties along with eleven companies of central paramilitary forces in the Ongole and Kandukur constituencies for the byelection.
As many as 1,666 persons were bound over and 68 licensed arms were de-posited in view of the byp-oll for the Ongole Assem-bly constituency, he said.
Mr Raghuram Reddy said that as many as 45 persons were arrested and 44, 586 liquor bottles seized so far over violation of model code of conduct.
He added that a total Rs.2,01,83,445 in cash was seized and 65 persons were arrested in the ‘cash and violation’ cases.
The police officer added that 55 non-bailable warrants were executed and 68 arms were deposited in view of byelection.
He clarified that the amount directly connected to election distribution was Rs.55 lakh in 20 cases.

TD leaders are worried about his disqualification for violation of election expenditu-re. Ongole rural police sei-zed Rs.13.97 lakh belonging to Mr Jana-rdhan from the TD office at NTR Bhavan. Pol-ice arrested office account-ant Haribabu and register-ed a case against Mr Janardhan. In another incident, Mr Janardhan distributed ban-anas to voters during campaigning in various areas of the town. Ongole byelection observer D.P. Besides this, another case was registered against Mr Janardhan for using a vehicle without permission and trespassing when police stopped it for checks. Police officials have forwarded information about the thr-ee cases to the EC. Accordi-ng to EC norms, a candidate is permitted to spend Rs.16 lakh in the election, but as per reports, Mr Janard-han’s expenses are over Rs.20 lakh. Political experts say that Mr Janardhan is liable for disqualification, as EC norms. TD leaders are busy consulting legal experts.

She humbly started with: “I, Sharmila, daughter of YSR and sister of Jagananna, came to Ongole to meet the beloved people of YSR.”
