Pulse polio immunisation drive focuses on nomadic groups

The people were asked to cooperate
with government to restrain polio during the pulse polio immunization programme
here on Sunday. The Prakasam collector, Ms Anita Rajendra while inaugurating the
immunization programme at urban health center of Gandhinagar said that health
is wealth hence people should provide good health to their children with the
help various vaccinations. She added that as many as 2500 centres were serving
people to administer polio drops in the district and asked people to bring
their kids to their nearest centres for polio drops. She added that health
staff and workers would conduct house-to-house visit on April 16 to administer
polio drops to children who failed to get drops on Sunday.
Mentioning public’s blind
belief about getting illness with immunization, Ms Anita ruled out the same as
baseless and added that it is dangerous if children fail to get polio drops as
polio will switch people as disabled persons. The district medical and health
officer, Dr K. Sudhakarbabu said that they are concentrating on nomadic groups
towards prevention of polio and explained about advantages of polio drops. He
added that mobile teams were operative at railway stations, bus-stands, toll
gate centers and other areas. Later Ms Anita went to Nehurunagar of Ongole and
administered polio drops to children of nomadic tribes.
