ONGOLE, APRIL 15

Despite government’s propaganda about Praja Patham (PP), the programme failed to start all over the Prakasam district barring some villages of Korisapadu mandal on Sunday. The Addanki MLA, Mr Gottipati Ravikumar started the PP at Bodduvanipalem village by reading out chief minister’s message. Mr Ravikumar said that government is conducting PP to resolve public difficulties like potable water scarcity, medical services, free power supply, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and others and asked people to make good use of the PP to get answer to their issue.

The MGNREGS assistant project director, Ms O. Kalyani said that job card labourers under MGNREGS are going to get Rs 137 per head per day against earlier Rs 121 according to government orders from Monday. People of Rajivnagar complained that panchayat was supplying fluoridated mixed water due to which ailed three youth suffering from kidney diseases. They demanded supply of protected drinking water. The water supply officials clarified that the medical and health department was going to probe about presence of fluoride and assured supply of water through tankers. Mr Ravikumar promised a permanent water purification centre in the village.

Some others complained about absence of 104 and 108 services. The MLA became angry of the duo departments over the absence of its officials and directed the duo departments to attend PP without fail. Later Mr Ravikumar participated in the PP with officials of various departments in Gudipadu, Korisapdu, Kurravanipalem and Ravinutala villages and received complaints from people. The PP was failed to start in 55 mandals out of total 56 barring Korisapadu mandal. As many as ten MLAs represents Congress in the Prakasam including the minister for urban development and municipal administration, Mr Manugunta Mahidhar Reddy and Ongole MP, Mr Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy but barring Mr Ravikumar no one joined PP programme in their respective constituencies.

The people mainly in rural areas who prepared to highlight their issues to their MLAs in the inaugural PP programme went into depress with the non-starter of programme. The resident of various colonies of the Ongole Corporation severely criticized about the absence of PP and further reluctance of Congress people’s representatives towards the programme. They lamented that neither public representatives nor government officials are interested to conduct PP hence they are hopeless about resolving of their issues.
