Women, YSR fans disrupt CM’s meet

Women, YSR fans disrupt CM’s meet October 3, 2011 By DC Correspondent Ongole Women, YSR fans disrupt CM’s meet The YSR Congress and some Congress activists disrupted the public meeting of the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, at Yerragondapalem in Prakasam district on Sunday. Objecting to the absence of YSR’s portrait on the dais, the YSR Congress workers also criticised speakers who did not mention the services of YSR. When the Chief Minister announced release of funds for the 25 paise vaddi scheme, women shouted that they had not received these loans and questioned the logic behind the Rs.1 a rice kg scheme when prices of all essential commodities were rising. They shouted slogans against government for its failure in providing drinking water and electricity supply. Irked by this, the CM immediately ordered Prakasam district collector, Mr D. Kantilal, to resolve the issues of the women. Mr Kantilal and rural development minister, Mr Dokka Manikyavaraprasad Rao, tried to pacify the women protestors, but police had to resort to a mild lathi-charge to calm down the protesting women. The CM also gave an assurance about releasing funds to pacify the agitating women. The YSRC workers shouted slogans when PCC president, Mr Botsa Satyanarayana, alleged that some leaders had earned huge amounts when they were in power and were now coming into the public asking for power. The YSRC supporters obstructed the meeting by breaking chairs but with the intervention of police, normalcy was restored. Mr Kiran was markedly unhappy when women and the YSRC supporters obstructed Mr Azad’s speech. Some protestors snatched flexi banners in the meeting. Mr Azad abruptly ended his speech and Mr Kiran concluded the meeting by presenting a cheque to a women’s thrift group.
