Yerran seeks probe into Polavaram dam tenders

Yerran seeks probe into Polavaram dam tenders October 23, 2011 By DC Correspondent Ongole Yerran seeks probe into Polavaram dam tenders The Telugu Desam politb-uro member, K. Yerrann-aidu, demanded here on Saturday a high-level enq-uiry to probe illegalities in the allocation of Polava-ram project tenders. He alleged that the Congress government had allowed the contractor to earn Rs.600 crore illegally. Mr Yerrannaidu said that he never had seen so much corruption during his 30 years of political life. “The Congress led Un-ion and state governments were fully corrupt and the Congress has no right to continue in power,” he alleged. He lamented that the TD president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, and other national leaders had toured various parts of the state to understand the farmers plight, but the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, has no time for farmers. He commented that the CM is expert in cricket, but poor in the knowledge of agriculture, which is troubling farmers. The TD leader said that the state’s Congress MPs are reluctant to address farmers’ issues, and never demanded implementation of the Swaminathan committee recommendations in Parliament. He added that the public had committed the mistake by giving power to Congress twice, but now people are ready to defeat the Congr-ess in the next elections. He said that government’s laxity in releasing water through Sagar canal is forcing farmers to shun farming, due to absence of irrigation water. He claimed that the TD government had supplied irrigation water to tail end lands also and demanded supply of irrigation water to all farmlands. Mr Yerrannaidu dema-nded declaring 442 mandals of the state including those in Prakasam and Guntur districts as drou-ght hit. Earlier, the TD leader inspected dry farm fields in Martur, Yeddanapudi, and Nagulappadu, and interacted with farmers.
