Regional parties are of no use, claims minister
DC CORRESPONDENT
ONGOLE, MAY 5
Hectic political activity started at Ongole on Saturday as three major
political parties, Telugu Desam, YSR Congress and Congress intensified
their campaigns to attract voters towards their parties in the
byelection. Congress had conducted a meeting with Christians, YSRC
leaders toured various BC colonies and TD cadre visited some wards of
the town in support of their candidates.
The minister for rural development and Prakasam district incharge, Mr
Dokka Manikyavaraprasad Rao said that there is no use with regional
parties to public and claimed that Congress only is capable of
developing states as well as country. Interacting with pastors during
a meeting at Ranga bhavan on Saturday, minister predicted that
Congress will win majority seats in the ongoing byelections to 18
assembly and one parliament seat. He added that Ongole people honoured
Congress for decades hence their candidate would emerge winner in the
byelection.
Mentioning that Congress had given priority to Christian in the party
and government, Mr Manikyavaraprasad Rao asked Christian community to
work towards win of Parvatamma by casting their votes to Congress. He
added that constitution provides protection to every citizen barring
religion and caste hence Congress was providing the same to minorities
in their government. He alleged that Christians experienced attacks on
their community during NDA and Telugu Desam governments and the same
was restrained in the Congress government. He reeled out various acts
of government towards protection of rights of Christians and appealed
pastors to vote in favour of Parvatamma.
The Ongole MP, Mr Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy mentioned association of
their family with pastors. He recalled that pastors supported him,
late brother Subbarami Reddy and sister-in-law Parvatamma in the
elections and appealed to work for the win of Parvatamma. Rajyasabha
MP, Mr J. D. Seelam reeled out various developmental activities by
Congress for Dalit Christians. Congress MLAs of Kondepi,
Santanutalapadu and Yerragondapalem, Messrs G. V. Seshu, B. N.
Vijaykumar and A. Suresh said that they are trying to provide SC
reservations to Dalit Christians. They added that government had filed
an appeal in this issue in the Supreme Court two months ago. Congress
leader Kakumanu Rajasekhar and others addressed meeting in which
pastors and Christian leaders participated in large scale.
