GPS and Google to help cops in bypolls
Prakasam district superintendent of police K. Raghuram Reddy said here on Monday that the police department would be using GPS devices and Google maps to monitor the movement of the police mobile parties and for a quick response for any complaint.
Mr Raghuram Reddy said that a team of techies from Hyderabad, comprising Karunkar Reddy, Riyaz and Sandeep were working voluntarily with the police department and providing valuable inputs and help with the GPS system.
Asking the people to cooperate with the police department for a free and fair byelection, he said that the police had initiated strong measures to curb anomalies during voting on Tuesday.
Mr Raghuram Reddy said that two additional SPs, nine DSPs, 21 CIs, 190 SIs, 318 ASIs/HCs, 1520 police constables and 548 home guards were depl-oyed for bypoll bandobust.
The DSP added that besides this, 504 armed force personnel were performing election duties along with eleven companies of central paramilitary forces in the Ongole and Kandukur constituencies for the byelection.
As many as 1,666 persons were bound over and 68 licensed arms were de-posited in view of the byp-oll for the Ongole Assem-bly constituency, he said.
Mr Raghuram Reddy said that as many as 45 persons were arrested and 44, 586 liquor bottles seized so far over violation of model code of conduct.
He added that a total Rs.2,01,83,445 in cash was seized and 65 persons were arrested in the ‘cash and violation’ cases.
The police officer added that 55 non-bailable warrants were executed and 68 arms were deposited in view of byelection.
He clarified that the amount directly connected to election distribution was Rs.55 lakh in 20 cases.
