Communist Party of India state secretary K. Narayana, along with farmers, entered the Vanpic lands at Gundayapalem by removing fencing on Tuesday.
Mr Narayana alleged that the then minister Mopidevi Venkataramana was responsible for fishermen losing their lands in the seacoast areas to Vanpic. He clarified that despite severe opposition from the CPI, Mr Venkataramana had supported the Vanpic land acquisition.
He alleged that minister for rural development Dokka Manikya Varaprasad Rao had occupied Vanpic lands and tilled the soil to get farmers’ votes in the byelection; this was a political drama, he said.
He asked the farmers to reoccupy their lands and assured them that their party would stand by them. He alleged that Mr Nimmagadda Prasad had cheated farmers by paying meagre compensation but earned huge money from banks against these lands by increasing land value.
Mr Narayana alleged that government had failed to provide minimum support prices for crops, supply electricity and seeds and fertilisers.
Mr Narayana, along with the farmers, released a novel written by Mr S. Nagaraju which revolves around the plight of Vanpic victim farmers. Mr Narayana entered the Vanpic acquired lands by removing fences, performed a padayatra and ploughed the lands.
