14-year-old tied, tortured on theft charge
A tea stall owner beat up a 14-year-old-boy alleging that he robbed Rs.5,000 from his shop. The boy of Balaji Nagar was working in a cloth shop at Bapuji Market Complex and his friend offered him extra salary in a tea stall.
Seeking extra salary, the boy joined teashop at Gandhi road, worked for two days but later stopped coming as his parents objected to his work. On Wednesday the boy went to tea shop and asked money for two days work.
The boy alleged that the owner tied him in the shop and beat him with club (lathi) demanding return of Rs.5,000 which was stolen from the shop. He denied stealing money, but the owner along with two others beat him, tore his clothes and recorded the whole torture in their mobile phone.
Later with the intervention of friend, he escaped from the shop but unable to go home with injuries and took shelter at Bapuji market complex.
Parents Polaiah and Revathi asked tea stall owner about the boy but he showed video clippings of torture and demanded return of money or handing of the boy.
Later they found the boy with serious injuries and shifted him to RIMS hospital for treatment.
They lod-ged a complaint in RIMS hospital police outpost.
Ongole deputy superintendent of police M. Rajni-kanth Reddy said that police had launched search for tea stall owner who was absconding and are further investigating the case.
